It looked for a while like Eminem might be heading back to Detroit to face charges of assault, but the man who accused the rapper of punching him in a Detroit strip club last week has dropped his charges. Last week, the man, known only as Miad J., told the Detroit Police Department, as revealed by their spokeswoman, Eren Stephens Bell, that Eminem had "struck him several times" in the bathroom of the strip club Cheetah's on, you guessed it, Eight Mile Road in Detroit. (Eight Mile is also the name of the Curtis Hanson film that was Eminem's semi-autobiographical foray into the movie business and won him an Oscar for Best Song for "Lose Yourself".) On Monday, the charges against Eminem were dropped and no requests for comments from Eminem aka Marshall Mathers were returned. Officials do not know why Miad J. dropped the charges.
About the run-in with Eminem, Miad J. told local Detroit newstation WXYZ last week, as reported by AllHipHop.com, the rapper was using the bathroom when a man started talking to Eminem, prompting of his bodyguards to tell the man to be quiet. "I said 'the guys not saying nothing, he's just talking to him, he's not saying anything. Eminem got done and boom. He started swinging. I wasn't even expecting it. I was just minding my own business, taking a leak."
Eminem's incident at Cheetah's isn't the first run-in with the law, but it is the first in the last five years. Back in 2001, Eminem was sentenced to two years probation after being caught with a concealed weapon outside a Detroit nightclub. The charges also related to incidents with his nemesis, Insane Clown Posse, and for pistol-whipping a man who supposedly kissed his wife, Kim Mathers. Earlier this year, fellow D-12 member and friend, Proof, was shot at another nightclub on Eight Mile Road.
E Online had a few more details on Eminem's 2006, "After remarrying his high school sweetheart last January, Eminem filed for divorce without explanation from Kim just three months later and the two are currently seeking joint custody of their 10-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade. While he is taking time off from his own recording, Eminem has been keeping himself busy in the studio producing pal Obie Trice's sophomore album, Second Round's on Me, due out next month. He also recently agreed to star in a big-screen update of the classic TV western Have Gun Will Travel."
