India's leading lottery operator, Sugal & Damani, has joined the race to run Britain's national lottery for the next decade. The conglomerate has submitted a preliminary proposal to the National Lottery Commission, The Sunday Times reports.
The current operator, Camelot, is bidding to keep the job and Australia's Tattersall's is also in the field.
Sugal & Damani, whose businesses range from tourism and jewellery to financial services, is thought to be concentrating its pitch on its technical expertise.
Group chairman Sugalchand Jain said they are in the process of finalising their bid.
"We have more than 35 years of continuous operation of government lotteries in various states of India," he said.
In recent months, there has been speculation over bids from several other players, including Italy's Lottomatica and Greece's Intralot which was thought to be in partnership with the bookmaker Ladbrokes.
Sir Richard Branson, who has bid twice in the past, has said he will not be seeking the licence this time round.
