COPENHAGEN, Denmark (Reuters) -- Denmark arrested a Rwandan immigrant and accused him of being a participant in the African country's 1994 genocide, prosecutors said on Friday. Sylvaire Ahorugeze was charged on Thursday with killing 25 people on the first day of the genocide. At the time, he ran the airport in Rwanda's capital, Kigali.
"We found the case by going through the Category 1 suspect list to see if any of them could be living in Denmark, and one was," said Birgitte Vestberg, a public prosecutor at Denmark's Special International Crimes Office.
Rwanda classifies as Category 1 offenders people who planned, instigated or supervised the genocide. A Danish judge will rule early next week on whether police can continue to detain Ahorugeze, who has been living in Denmark for six years.
